WRITING: A diary entry

Preparation:

1-What’s your situation at the moment?
I’m in a difficult situation at the moment, one of my classmates, Alex, stole a CD from one shop. The police interviewed him but he lied. He said that he had been with me in my house, and I have also lied to my fathers to protect him. But the security video told the truth. Now I’ve both problems.
2-Why did you lie?
I have lied to my fathers to protect him because he is a good friend.
3-Was your friend right or wrong?
I think that Alex was wrong because he didn't have to stole, if he didn't have money to buy the CD, he could ask for a friend or save some money.
4-What would you have done?
I would have saved some money or I worked to earn some money and buy the CD.
5-Do you thing that this might happen again?
I don't think that this will happen again because Alex was very scared and probably learned her lesson, but you never know.
6-What would you do if you were in this situation again?
If I return to find in this situation probably explains the truth to my fathers from the beginning to avoid problems.

I have lied to my parents to protect him because he is a good friend.
I think that Alex was wrong because he didn't have to steal. If he didn't have money to buy the CD, he could ask for a friend or save some money. I would have saved some money or I worked to earn some money and buy the CD.
I don't think that this will happen again because Alex was very scared and probably learned his lesson, but you never know. If I go through this situation again, I’ll probably explain the truth to my fathers from the beginning to avoid problems.

UNIT 5: Dublin

Samantha, tells us about Dublin is the capital of Ireland and is largest city. 2 million people left Ireland during the famine. More than 50% of dublines are younger than 25. Dublin has got great museums and galleries for example the Trinity College started in the sixteenth century and it's a great place to shop. Many years ago, ther's a big hunger and more than 1 million people died. Dublin has many old buildings and the university of Dublin is the oldest in Ireland and Temple Bar is a great place for people to enjoy themselves. There's an statue of Oscar Wilde, a writer. Dublin is one of the bests city's to live in Europe.

UNIT 4: The abolition of slavery

Toby tells about Hull and his most famous resident, William Wilberforce. Wilberforce was a politician. The British slave trade was abolished within his lifetime, but he continued campaigning because he wanted to free slaves all over the world. Between 1450 and 1850 at least 12 million Africans were taken across the Atlantic, mainly to colonies in North American, South America and the West Indies. The use of African slaves in the British Caribbean began in the late seventeenth century. Slaves suffered terribly on the ships and up to 20% died before they even arrived in the Caribbean. They were made to work on the sugar plantations and were treated cruelly. Britain banned slavery in 1807 but it took until 1865 for slavery to be abolished in the USA.

UNIT 3: Music

Roxane explain how the computers have changed the music, the history of music, and she interview a band called The Half Rabbits. She asked for the impact of the internet on music. They said that in the world there are a lot of different bands but only a few become famous. Most of the bands famouse don't come from London. Radiohead and Supergrass are from Oxford, Kaiser Chiefs and Pulp are from Sheffield, The Stone Roses and the Happy Mondays are from Manchester, and Franz Ferdinand and Travis are from Glasgow. Some singers and bands have become successful through the Internet, such as the Arctic Monkeys and Lily Allen.

UNIT 2: Guide dogs for the blinds

Jake is runing 10 km in a charity race next Sunday. The race is for raise money to the blind dogs association. The dogs help blind people to be more independent. Living with a blind disability is very easy. The association started in 1934. The association takes 18 months to train the dogs. The charity needs 40 millions of money to train dogs.

UNIT 1:The Angel of the North

Sally live live in New Castle. Is a great multicultural city. There's a lot of things to do and see. One of the famous sculptures in Britain is the Angel of the North. Is a bigger sculpture in Britain. It's 20 meters hight. The Angel, is one of the most populars works of art in the world. More than nine thousand people have seen it. The sculpture has benn here for ten years and he was designed by Antony Gormley. The Angel was the most important and expensive project. The Angel is made of steal with two thousand hundred kg. In february 15 of 1998 the Angel was transported to here.
